Jaguar secures Monaco Formula E 1-2
The first win for Jaguar in Monaco comes on the same weekend it committed to be a manufacturer in the GEN4 era of Formula E until 2030.
Mitch Evans won Round 8 of the Formula E World Championship in Monaco ahead of teammate Nick Cassidy for a historic 1-2 finish for Jaguar TCS Racing. The win was Jaguar’s first on the streets of the Principality and extended its lead in the Formula E Team’s World Championship to 44 points over nearest rivals TAG Heuer Porsche.
The duo started the race in the second row but moved to the front after 11 laps. The two then took turns to hold back the rest of the pack while their leads were extended. Evans took the lead and held it from lap 17 onwards, despite the appearance of two safety cars being added to the race after a heavy crash for Edoardo Mortara of Mahindra Racing at the Swimming Pool entry and when Nico Mueller of ABT Cupra was unable to continue after contact with Jake Hughes of McLaren. Cassidy also scored an additional point for the fast lap of the E-Prix as both Jaguar I-Type 6’s passed the chequered flag.
James Barclay, Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal: “I am so incredibly proud of all the team today. The way the team and drivers worked together was exemplary and the unity demonstrated by every single member of our group enabled us to make history here in Monaco. This was an incredibly strategic race, and the team executed it to perfection. We have two highly intelligent and fast racing drivers in Mitch and Nick, but their strength under pressure and teamwork enabled us to achieve what we did here today.
“We’ve made history and broken a number of records - Jaguar’s first win in Monaco, Mitch’s first win in the Principality and Formula E’s first ever 1-2 on the streets of Monte Carlo. A moment we will remember forever that is also now cast in Jaguar’s fabulous history.”
Round nine and ten of the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship take place in Berlin, Germany, on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May.
