Hyundai Unveil ‘NPX1’ Concept Model in Tokyo

At the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024, Hyundai unveiled the ‘IONIQ 5 N NPX1’, a concept model equipped with prototype N Performance Parts.

The IONIQ 5 has been hugely successful for Hyundai, winning multiple awards since its initial release in the UK in 2021. Hyundai’s N range - N standing for Nürburgring - offers a series of technological additions to its cars that are designed to boost it and make it better on track. The IONIQ 5 N is due to be released in the UK in March and has already been reviewed well by many British motoring publications.

Hyundai’s internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles like the Elantra, i30 and i20 have all been given the N treatment in the past and that service was carried over to its high-performance EVs in 2019. The South Korean brand chose to go all in on EV production, investing hundreds of millions of dollars in its quest to become one of the leading EV manufacturers by 2030.

The ‘NPX1’ concept displayed in Tokyo previews many of the N-specific additions that will be available to purchase shortly. New side skirts, carbon front splitter, rear diffuser, rear wing spoiler, lightweight hybrid carbon wheels, brake pads and lowering springs are all seen on the concept model and its interior features Alcantara and racing bucket seats.

Prototype N Performance Parts seen on the NPX1 concept will continue to be developed ahead of availability in 2024, starting with the release of the IONIQ 5 N.

“In 2024, Hyundai Motor Company will take a step forward as a leader in new tuning parts suitable for the high-performance EV era as demonstrated with the ‘NPX1’ concept model,” said Joon Park, Vice President of N Brand Management Group. “Not limited to tuning parts, we are also developing software customisation such as sound and vehicle calibration by OTA updates which will open a completely new category of EV customisation for an exciting future ahead for the tuning community.”
