Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally Revealed in Munich
Ford has fully revealed the Mustang Mach-E Rally at IAA Mobility in Munich alongside a video demonstrating its capabilities both on tarmac and dirt. Punters may have already seen the car at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Mustang Mach-E Rally represents the first ever rally-inspired EV.
To solidify its rally credentials, the car rides on a unique suspension that has been raised 20 millimetres over a GT version with specially tuned springs and shocks. A tuned version of the Mustang Mach-E GT powertrain and two-motor layout provides 880 Nm of torque and 358 kW of power and includes a lithium-ion battery with a 91 kWh capacity.
When you fancy some off-roading, the Mustang Mach-E Rally has the first-ever RallySport Drive Mode 6 from Ford, which adapts electronic control systems to allow bigger slides, better control and more aggressive damping for handling corners. Along with new Michelin CrossClimate2 tyres, these driving modes allow the car to handle the trickiest of conditions and surfaces, including snow.
This isn’t just a rally car by name. The rear spoiler, unique contrasting accents, including upper and lower body mouldings, a unique front splitter, black painted steel roof and fog lights make it look the part. Two racing stripes come as standard with every Mustang Mach-E Rally and the car can be ordered in Grabber Blue, Shadow Black, Eruption Green, and Grabber Yellow. For a pricier option, Star White or new Glacier Gray are available as extras. Inside, distinctive performance seats that have Mach-E Rally stitched in and a giant iPad sized touchscreen are the standout features.
The Mustang Mach-E Rally was put through its paces by Ford at its Michigan Proving ground, with rallycross veterans helping to design a specially made course to replicate the conditions that the vehicle might face once sold to customers. Prototypes were driven, battered and bruised over 800 kilometres to test their durability and mould the car into what it is today.
The Mustang Mach-E Rally will be available to order in early 2024 and deliveries will begin shortly afterward.
