Ferrari Hypersail livery revealed at Milan Design Week

Ferrari has revealed the livery for its Hypersail, and before we go any further, let’s address the elephant in the room.

It’s not red.

The Prancing Horse confirmed its plans to enter the world of competitive sailing in June 2025, revealing the Hypersail name for the 100ft racing monohull prototype. The Italian brand also revealed it would be designed to operate exclusively using renewable energy sources, including solar, wind and kinetic energy, while nine patents plus a further six were signed off on a project full of original ideas.

Ferrari’s Tech Team, engineering team, Design Studio, led by Flavio Manzoni and naval architect Guillaume Verdier, were all involved in a project that combined Maranello design and advanced offshore sailing technology. The Hypersail had achieved the impossible; it had petrolheads talking about boats.

Design cues have been taken from some of Ferrari’s, with the streamlined silhouette mimicking proportions on the Monza SP1/SP2, while the exterior of the coachroof on deck recalls the graphics architecture of the Le Mans-winning Hypercar 499P.

Hypersail Livery

But back to the newly revealed livery, and its non-red predominant colour— Nuovo Giallo Fly, to give it its official name.

The colours have been chosen deliberately in a move that combines the Ferrari’s “constant drive toward innovation” ethos with its aesthetic heritage. The Nuovo Giallo Fly yellow was originally inspired by Fiamma Breschi, friend of Enzo Ferrari and widow of driver Luigi Musso, famous for his yellow helmet. It was first used on the 275 GTB, which was created in the 1960s, and a variant has been partly used on the Prancing Horse’s successful endurance racing cars in the WEC in recent years.

Combining with Nuovo Giallo Fly is a grey tone carbon fibre named Grigio Hypersail, which, while apparently serving as an “aesthetic choice”, will help the Hypersail achieve lightness and performance.

Where can I see the Ferrari Hypersail project?

Ferrari fans will be able to catch a glimpse of the Hypersail project at Milan Design Week from April 22 to 26, where a dedicated exhibition will be held in the brand’s Flagship store in the Italian city. The project also features the Hypersail lighthouse installation, an exclusive sculpture by the Ferrari Design Studio on the HIGHLINE Milano main terrace overlooking Piazza del Duomo.
