CALLUM Reveals SKYE

CALLUM SKYE

After the unveiling of the Nyobolt - the EV that charges in six minutes - in June, Warwick-based design and engineering business CALLUM has unveiled its latest creation, CALLUM SKYE. It is the company’s first own brand vehicle fully designed, engineered and created in house and is a high-performance multi-terrain EV.

CALLUM is pushing the boundaries of what is possible in EV manufacturing from its facility in Warwickshire, using the latest methods from 3D modelling, printing and scanning to whole vehicle engineering, development and homologation testing. Since 2019, and headed by Jaguar’s former design boss Ian Callum, its small team of 20+ staff have been combining their expertise in art, audio, automotive, fashion and motorsport, to build creations that other companies will surely look to mirror in the future.

The uniquely shaped SKYE distinguishes itself from other multi-terrain EVs as a more compact vehicle with an enclosed and refined 2+2 layout cabin. It has beach buggy and F type - with a sprinkling of monster truck - qualities in its styling and has been designed to be pitted against the most demanding of surfaces, whether that be challenging off-road courses or long twisting mountain roads - all whilst having a significantly quieter experience than in an ICE.

The high-performance all-wheel drive SKYE is powered by a 42kWh battery and has an anticipated range of 170 miles and, like the Nyobolt, has an ultra-fast charging battery for a full charge in under ten minutes. Its 0-60mph time is ultra-fast too and can be achieved in under four seconds thanks to a perfectly balanced 50/50 weight distribution for a vehicle weighing just 1,050kg.

Adam Donfrancesco, head of engineering at CALLUM, said: “We set an uncompromisingly high bar with our functional targets for the CALLUM SKYE, creating a compelling, unique, versatile and durable vehicle. Throughout the development journey, we have held steadfast to the principles of simplicity and integrity, ensuring the CALLUM SKYE conquers the rigorous demands of a variety of off-road terrains, while still delivering the ride comfort and handling that transforms winding country roads into captivating experiences for both the driver and passengers.”

David Fairbairn, managing director at CALLUM, added: “The CALLUM SKYE addresses a void in the market, endowing discerning owners with a bold, beautifully engineered off-road vehicle that beckons to be enjoyed, giving a sense of fun, freedom and escapism. It’s an exceptionally capable vehicle with the refinement of boutique craftsmanship. And with its battery options, our ambition is for the CALLUM SKYE to make a big impression on the industry, while ensuring it doesn’t have a negative environmental impact.”

More details regarding the release of the CALLUM SKYE will be released in spring 2024 after further tweaks to its engineering as well as more rigorous testing. Those interested are encouraged to register their interest here.
