Brad Pitt Formula 1 film to be released in June 2025
Pitt was first seen filming scenes for the unnamed film at the 2023 British Grand Prix.
Formula 1 and Apple Original Films announced a 25th June 2025 release date internationally for their movie starring Brad Pitt, directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
The film sees Pitt, 60, star as a former driver Sonny Hayes who returns to Formula 1, racing for the fictional team APXGP alongside teammate Damson Idris who plays Joshua Pierce. Pitt caused a stir at last year’s British Grand Prix filming scenes in a modified Formula 2 car and lining up alongside the other team before the start of the race. Filming will pick up again at this year’s race at Silverstone and continue at other races before wrapping up at the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
Formula 1 has collaborated with Apple on the film and drivers from the 10 teams on the grid will be a part of the story, including Lewis Hamilton who is co-producing and overseeing the making of the film. Also producing is Tom Cruise, who worked with Kosinski on Maverick, and other cast members include Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.
The release of Netflix Formula 1 documentary series Drive to Survive has led to an increase in popularity in the sport and Apple will hope to capitalise on that success after spending £125 million on the rights and budget for the feature film.
