Bentley showcases new 'Ombré' faded finish on Flying Spur
Personalisation and tailored services are now so vast and executed to the finest detail when buying a new car that if you have the cash to spend, it is impossible not to end up with something truly unique.
Even colours aren’t colours anymore. Like Bentley’s new ‘Ombré by Mulliner’ paint finish that blends two separate colours over the length of the car. The British brand showcased an example of Ombré on its four-door Flying Spur ahead of its first appearance in the flesh at the Southampton International Boat Show…as you do.
The finish is painted entirely by hand at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, using traditional mixing methods and taking around 60 hours to complete, making each one completely unique.
The example shown here blends Topaz Blue at the front with the darker Windsor Blue at the rear, with the fade occurring across the mid-section of the car, from the doors to the sills and roof. Bentley’s paintwork specialists have had to research meticulously which colours would blend properly, as too much contrast (like yellow and blue, for example) will end up producing a third colour.
Two other colour options are available in the form of Sunburst Gold to Orange Flame, and Tungsten to Onyx, with Bentley saying more are set to join the party in ‘due course’.
Will Ombré be the ‘friendly’ paint choice for future Bentley customers? If the quoted price of £48,000 doesn’t put them off, perhaps.
The Ombré Flying Spur follows the Ombré Continental GT that debuted at this year’s Monterey Car Week event.
