This is the McLaren W1 you can buy for £15k
Yes, you read that correctly.
But no, you won’t be able to drive it.
Because this W1 is the latest scale model from Amalgam Collection, having previously tried their hand at Senna and P1 models from McLaren, as well as the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Gumball 3000 miniatures. Although when I say miniature, this 1:8 scale model still measures at 57cm (22 inches) in length, so you may find it difficult to squeeze it onto your shelf at home.
The W1s have been created in collaboration with McLaren Automotive in Woking, taking 3,000 hours to develop and over 300 hours to assemble by hand. Original CAD designs, paint codes and material specifications were all supplied by McLaren to Amalgam artisans in Bristol, as well as digital design data to ensure each one has the same scaled dimensions as the real thing.
Sandy Copeman, Founder of Amalgam Collection, said: “In recent times, Amalgam models are becoming alternative investments for collectors of cars and artwork due to them holding their value.”
Price
There are two W1 model options available to buy.
The launch spec version is finished in the same Papaya Spark colour that the W1 had when it was unveiled in late 2024. Only 199 of these have been made and are priced from £14,995.
Otherwise, you can go for a bespoke ‘Tailor Made’ version, which replicates an owner’s exact vehicle configuration, with McLaren supplying factory build sheets directly to Amalgam. These are the more expensive options, starting from £20,995.
It’s a fair whack, granted, although both models are slightly less than the £2 million price tag that came with the real thing.
