Updated Porsche 911 GT3 revealed along with new GT3 Touring

The 25th anniversary of the Porsche 911 GT3 has been marked with the release of two new versions. The track-focused 911 GT3 and the more refined Touring are updated models that arrive with more extensive standard equipment and an abundance of further options. Both options are available to buy with either a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) or six-speed manual gearbox.

Porsche has made subtle changes to the new 911 GT3 models with the front and rear receiving styling tweaks to aid its aerodynamics. At the front, there are also newly designed Matrix LED headlights with an optional white accent ring, a re-contoured front diffuser, a new spoiler lip and modified fins on the underbody to increase downforce and optimise airflow. At the rear, the diffuser, air inlets and rear lid have had a refresh, while the rear wing now contains new angled sideplates.

The 4.0-litre flat-six engine delivers the same 510hp and 450Nm of torque as before, enabling a 0-62mph sprint in 3.4 seconds (3.9 in a manual) and a top speed of 193mph. The cylinder heads have been revised, and the sharper camshafts of the 911 GT3 RS provide a ‘more dynamic performance’ in the upper engine speed range. Two particulate filters and four catalytic converters help it comply with stricter emissions standards.

The new 911 GT3 uses lightweight silver aluminium steel making it lighter than the previous model. It weighs just 1,420kg overall and can be made even lighter if optional magnesium wheels from the Weissach package - available for the first time with the 911 GT3 - or Leichtbau (lightweight) package are chosen. The car as standard sits on 20 inch aluminium wheels at the front and 21 inch wheels at the rear.

Inside, Porsche has created new CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic) sporty bucket seats with a folding backrest. While a traditional start button brings the 911 GT3 to life, a digital rev counter has been chosen in favour of an analogue equivalent. There’s also a wireless charging pad for your phone.

The Touring Package, part of the GT3 programme since 2017, is available from market launch for the first time and is the more ‘timelessly elegant choice’, dispensing with the rear wing. It differentiates from its launch partner with an extendable rear spoiler with a tear-off edge, Gurney flap and adapted fin design on the underbody for aerodynamic balance. And don’t forget the ‘911 GT3 Touring’ logo on the rear lid grille. Inside, a high quality leather finish marries with a sporty feel and the option of rear seats is available for the first time, turning the Touring option into a practical daily.

Andreas Preuninger, Head of GT Cars: “The new 911 GT3 has become even more exhilarating and individual. We dug into a wealth of details and gave it many features that our customers wanted. This allows the GT3 to be adapted even more specifically to the purpose or preferences of the driver.”

The new Porsche 911 GT3 and Touring Package can be ordered from the end of the year, with deliveries set to take place a few months later. Prices start from £157,000, although the addition of Weissach and Lightweight packages will bump that up considerably.
