The Led Zeppelin linked Ferrari 246 Dino GTS being auctioned by Car & Classic

Car & Classic are offering rock music fans the opportunity to own a rare, right-hand drive 1973 Ferrari 246 Dino GTS ordered new by Peter Grant, manager of Led Zeppelin.

One of only 235 right-hand drive versions sold to the UK market between 1972 and 1974, this already rare Dino has extra provenance due to its famous owner, who sold it after three years of ownership. When ordered new through H.R Owen, it was optioned in a non-standard ‘Rosso Bordeaux’ colour with brown leather upholstery. It has been well maintained throughout its life with its suspension and brakes being rebuilt as well as the installation of a high toque starter motor and new header tank. A bonus is that due to its classic status, it qualifies as MOT-exempt and only has 1,007 on the clock.

Discussing the ex-Peter Grant Ferrari, Car & Classic head of editorial Dale Vinten said: “With many members of Led Zeppelin known to enjoy their fair share of supercars, including many Ferraris, this Dino formerly owned by Peter Grant is a cherished, usable example with a proven history. It’s not just a car; it’s a piece of rock history, a fantastic piece of Led Zeppelin memorabilia, and a lovely example of a collectable 246 Dino GTS – it’s something that everyone can hopefully appreciate carries significant importance.”

Included in the sale is a carefully curated history file which includes original correspondence with the Ferrari factory in Maranello and the first logbook containing Peter Grant’s name. As pieces of rock history go, this is right up there and this particular Dino has added significance having appearing in many publications over the years, including ‘Ferrari Dino’ by Anthony Curtis and ‘Ferrari – The Ultimate Dream Machine’ by Paul W. Cockerham.

The auction runs from February 22-29 and is estimated to make between £275,000 – £350,000.
