Suzuki e Vitara is the Japanese company’s first EV

Suzuki has revealed the e Vitara, its first mass-production battery electric vehicle (BEV) model.

Based on the concept eVX model, production of the e Vitara will commence at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India in Spring 2025. In the summer months, sales will begin in Europe, India, and Japan.

Design

The e Vitara is an SUV that has a ‘High-Tech and adventure’ theme that is pronounced by its large tyres and long wheelbase. These are offset by black plastic wheel arch guards, lower body mouldings, bumper and sills. The tailgate features a full-width light bar for better visibility, while the whole vehicle has a muscular presence designed to dominate on and off road.

The lightest version weighs 1,702kg and is 200mm longer than the current hybrid Vitara, at 4,275mm, allowing extra space for five passengers inside.

Interior

Talking of inside, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display sits behind the steering wheel alongside a 10.1-inch central infotainment screen. It is a relatively simplistic cockpit compared to its competitors, although many punters will enjoy the physical climate controls and floating centre console with rotary gear selector.

Powertrain

Its powertrain consists of an eAxle that integrates the motor, inverter and batteries, allowing quick acceleration from a standstill and when overtaking.

Two battery options are available to choose from, with a 49kWh 2WD and a 61kWh available with the choice of 2WD or 4WD.

The electric 4WD system, known as ALLGRIP-e, provides off-roading capability. It uses Suzuki’s previous four wheel drive technology and includes independent eAxles at the front and read for powerful performance and precision. A Trail mode helps specifically with escaping rough terrain by applying brakes to spinning tyres and dishing out drive toque to the opposite tyre.

The e Vitara makes use of the newly developed HEARTECT-e BEV-specific platform, featuring a lightweight structure, high-voltage protection and and specious interior.

Future Plans and Price

Suzuki will aim to expand its BEV lineup in the coming years and ‘propose mobility solutions tailored to the needs of specific countries and regions.’

In terms of the e Vitara, while there’s no word on price just yet, it is widely expected to be around the £30,000 mark when released in summer 2025.
