Rare Frazer-Nash BMW to be Auctioned by H&H Classics

A rare 1936 Frazer-Nash BMW 319/55 Sports is to go under the hammer at the upcoming H&H Classics auction on November 29th. The Pavilion Garden in Buxton will host the auction, with the car expected to sell for between £150,000 - £180,000. The lot represents an exciting opportunity for any potential buyer as it is just one of 26 319/55 Sports manufactured by Frazer-Nash.

Recognised as the second Frazer-Nash BMW 319/55 Sports to arrive in the UK, the car is eligible for a host of prestigious events and comes with an extensive history of competition. Accomplished amateur racing driver C.G. Fitt Esq. originally owned the car and took it to renowned racing venues like Brooklands, Shelsey Walsh and Donington to test its pace. Whilst its days of competitive racing are long gone, the current vendor has participated in numerous rallies since acquiring it for their private collection in 2006.

This 1936 Frazer-Nash BMW has undergone extensive maintenance and attention over the years to keep it competition ready and is now a combination of white with a red leather interior. Its wire wheels, not originally intended, were a specification added upon its creation and are one of the most noticeable features of the car.

Owners can drink in its rich history as included with the car is a comprehensive file containing photos from its racing days and significant documents like correspondence letters from the original owner. Evidence of its first in-class finish at the 1939 Brooklands J.C.C Rally, and a competitive finish at the London to Exeter Trial are all part of the package.

Frazer-Nash, then known as AFN Ltd, became importers and assemblers of BMW cars in 1934 and sold them branded as Frazer-Nash BMW. They were the official British BMW importer until the outbreak of war in 1939. The 319/55 Sports is regarded as one of the most desirable Frazer-Nash BMW models and was praised for being lighter in weight and easier to handle on the road than a Bentley, a contemporary at the time.

“We believe this is the first time in many years that one of these rare models has been put under the hammer so we expect a significant level of interest,” said Paul Cheetham, motorcar specialist at H&H Classics.
