Porsche unveils 99X Electric Formula E challenger

Porsche has revealed its Formula E car for the next two seasons, switching from its traditional black, white and red livery to a new purple look. The 99X Electric has been updated to comply with the new third generation of Formula E cars, called GEN3 Evo, and follows titles in the drivers’ world championship in 2022/2023 and 2023/2024.

The German powerhouse is committing to its electric future in both racing and production cars, with the colour scheme also featuring on the new Taycan Turbo GT, the most powerful production car the brand has ever built.

The key technical innovations for this season’s car comprise of front wheel drive activation, higher grip Hankook supplied tyres, and a modified front wing. The cars will be quicker than ever before, with temporary all-wheel drive enabling the Porsche 99X Electric to electric from 0-62mph in around two seconds.

António Félix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein

World Champion Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa retain their seats as drivers for the works TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. The two Andretti Formula E customer cars will have former World Champion Jake Dennis and the new Porsche works driver Nico Müller at the wheel.

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche works driver (#1): “The new Porsche 99X Electric is a very cool car. I love the colours so much that I designed my helmet the same way. It also goes without saying that I am proud to now have number 1 on the nose of my car. I want to defend my title and the preparations for the new season are going according to plan.”

The new Porsche 99X Electric will make its first appearance at official pre-season testing in Valencia from 4 to 7 November before its competitive debut in the first round of the season in Sao Paulo on December 7.
