McLaren W1 - successor to the F1 and P1 - to be revealed in October
McLaren will start its next chapter with the October 7th reveal of the W1, its new hypercar and successor to the F1 and P1.
The British powerhouse says the W1 name “celebrates McLaren’s World Championship mindset”. The October 7th reveal date has special significance, marking the 50th anniversary of McLaren’s first Formula 1 Constructors’ World Championship and Emerson Fittipaldi’s 1974 World Driver’s Championship with the team.
The reveal of the W1 comes 11 years after the release of the P1. It is understood that the British marque will once again go with a hybrid powertrain, meaning a longer wait for a pure electric McLaren. Power output figures are expected to be north of 1000bhp, beating the 903bhp P1.
Michael Leiters, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive: “The McLaren W1 is defined by real supercar principles and is the ultimate expression of a McLaren supercar. Born of our rich racing history and World Championship mindset, W1 pushes the boundaries of performance and is worthy of the ‘1’ name. Like its predecessors the F1 and McLaren P1, W1 defines the rulebook of a real supercar.”
