Kia EV9 named UK Car of the Year 2024

The Kia EV9 has been crowned UK Car of the Year 2024, beating the Hyundai IONIQ 6 and Volvo EX30 to the prize.

Half of a 30-strong jury chose the EV9 as their UK Car of the Year for 2024 and it is now the third year in a row that an electric vehicle has won the award.

One thing the EV9 can claim to be is versatile. It can be bought as either a six or seven-seater, with a choice of rear or all-wheel drive powertrains and three different trim levels. The price starts from £65,025 on the road and offers a range of 349 miles.

“The uberpractical Kia EV9 could be the vehicle that gets more drivers out of their petrol or diesel car than any other model. Seven seats, loaded with technology, premium quality and enough miles from the battery to cure almost every case of range anxiety – plus it’s fantastic to drive, too,” said John Challen, co-chairman, UK Car of the Year Awards. “The fact that nearly half of our judging panel chose the Kia as the UK Car of the Year 2024 is a massive vote of confidence in what is a seriously impressive and hugely appealing car.”

The Kia EV9 has only been on sale for a couple of months and has already received critical recognition from other awards bodies, having been named a finalist for the 2024 European Car of the Year awards and as a top-three finalist for the 2024 World Car Awards, to be announced at the New York International Auto Show on 27th March 2024.

As well as winning UK Car of the Year 2024, the EV9 also picked up the ‘Large Crossover’ award with judges having particular praise for “its innate practicality, modern design, and long electric driving range.”
