Italian Brand AEHRA Unveil Sedan EV Concept

There’s a new wave of startup companies looking to put their stamp on what a car is and what it can be, thanks to electric technology. One of these is AEHRA, an Italian brand, which has revealed its take on a Sedan EV at the Milano Monza auto show.

For a company less than a year old, and having already unveiled an SUV EV concept, AEHRA is making itself heard in a country full of automotive heritage. The Sedan concept borrows many design themes from the SUV, and following a teaser image in May, we are now being treated to a multitude of pictures showing unique characteristics. The brand’s design team purposely wanted the car to have fewer edges within the bodywork and its fluid shape is evident, drawing inspiration in part from the aeronautic sector. If this car doesn’t cut through the air with ease, I don’t know what will.

Filippo Perini, ex-Lamborghini design boss and AEHRA Head of Design spoke about the inspiration when creating the Sedan:

“The design of the AEHRA Sedan is inspired by numerous sources. In Italy, it is often said we exist in a living museum. For centuries, Italian architects, artists and designers have been inspired by the pursuit of the perfection of proportion. That passion and discipline are evident in every line and detail of the AEHRA Sedan. Adhering to AEHRA’s doctrine that form must always follow function; the Sedan is the antithesis to baroque design culture. Devoid of unnecessary adornments, yet alive with emotion, the AEHRA Sedan represents a new standard of natural beauty for zero-emission ultra-premium mobility.”

As for range, AEHRA says the Sedan will be able to reach 500 miles on a full charge using the same platform as the SUV, developed in partnership with Miba Battery Systems. A top speed of 165mph is achievable.

Whilst this remains a concept, AEHRA claims that the finished product will look pretty much identical to what has been revealed so far. Production won’t begin until 2025, with customer deliveries taking place a year after. AEHRA plans to build between 20,000 and 25,000 SUVs and Sedans a year at a starting price of between £125,000 and £140,000. Sales will begin in the US and Europe before heading over to China and the Gulf States. From its headquarters in Milan, AEHRA says it has substantial private funding in place in order to realise these grand ambitions.

How do you feel about new players entering the market? On the one hand, purists will argue that it will create an oversaturated market full of vehicles that stray too far from what a car should be. On the other hand, the large number of companies making moves will surely encourage new, bold and innovative ideas from heritage brands, forcing them to be more creative and inventive with their new offerings.
