First ever AC Cobra coupe set for production

The AC Cobra GT Coupe is the first of its kind in the 123 year history of the company.

Introduction and Design Inspiration

We’ve finally been treated to images of the new AC Cobra GT Coupe, the first ever AC Cobra coupe to be produced.

The AC Cobra GT Coupe builds on the GT Roadster platform and is inspired by the company’s heritage while retaining the Cobra aesthetic. The addition of motorsport-style enhancements are a throwback to AC cars seen in events like the Monte Carlo Rally and 24 Hours of Le Mans in its early years.

One of the inspirations is the AC A98 coupe Le Mans race car from 1964. It took the typical AC Cobra Roadster shape and introduced the distinctive Kammtail rear in order to help help reduce drag, and boost performance at high speed

Legacy and Performance

The one-off coupe was created specifically for the French race and testing was done on the M1 to prepare it for the rigours of competition. Getting up to speeds of nearly 185mph on the British motorway is claimed to be one of the reasons why the 70mph speed limit was later introduced in 1967. Unfortunately, the A98 ended up crashing out of the 1964 race with a burst tyre.

The Clubsport Edition and Series Production

The release of the AC Cobra GT Coupe comes with news of the special Clubsport Edition. Built with an enhanced aluminium chassis and carbon fibre body, it is powered by a 799bhp V8 and is limited to just 99 examples. These will be delivered to customers from the end of 2025 and beyond.

The series production coupe will then follow and will be available as a 450bhp V8 or 720bhp supercharged option. Prices start at £325,000 plus taxes with orders open now.
