Ferrari to enter into world of competitive sailing

After recently returning to the world of endurance racing and securing a history making win at Le Mans, Ferrari has teamed up with experienced yachtsman Giovanni Soldini as it prepares to embark on its latest venture, the world of competitive sailing.

Soldini brings 30 years of experience across solo and team races and joins Ferrari’s project as team principal, having left Maserati this week after 11 years.

The Prancing Horse calls it “a great challenge that stems from Ferrari's racing DNA and innovative drive” and represents a chance to make its mark in a new world of competitive racing.

Ferrari has been ever present in F1 since 1950, however, its last drivers’ championship and constructors’ title came in 2007 and 2008, respectively, due to the overwhelming dominance of Mercedes and Red Bull.

John Elkann, Chairman of Ferrari, said: “We are about to embark on an exciting journey that will expand our racing soul. With this new competitive challenge, motivated by our innovative capacity and commitment to sustainability, we will push beyond current boundaries. We are happy to be able to count on Giovanni, who is extraordinary in terms of experience, determination and team spirit.”

Giovanni Soldini said: “I am thrilled to start this new adventure with Ferrari. We are working on an important and cutting-edge project with an amazing technological potential that brings together different worlds and skills of the highest level. Working with an exceptional team in the research and development of innovative solutions that are respectful of our environment is a truly unique experience.”
