BYD reveals “most accessible” ATTO 2 SUV

A compact SUV for urban driving

Chinese brand BYD has introduced what it calls “its most accessible SUV yet in Europe” - the ATTO 2.

The public reveal of the ATTO 2 took place at the first major automotive expo of 2025, the Brussels Motor Show. with the model joining the ATTO 3 in BYD’s growing European lineup. The company says it is tailored to “urban streets and parking arrangements” and has a raised SUV ride height in an affordable package.

Compact but chunky design

The BYD ATTO 2 measures 145mm shorter and 45mm narrower than its ATTO 3 sibling, although its 2,620mm wheelbase is relatively long to give it plenty of cabin space. The look of the ATTO 2 is relatively simplistic, with clean lines as a prominent design feature.

Integrated LED headlights and slim daytime lights are worked into the front grille, while the large front bumper features sharp angles, which BYD says act as “vertical air curtains”. At the rear, a roof spoiler sits above a full width light finished in a ‘Chinese knot’ number 8 style design at the sides.

Colour choices

The ATTO 2 comes as standard in Climbing Grey, while Hiking Green, Skiing White and Cosmos Black are available as options.

ATTO 2 Interior

Inside, the layout has a premium feel, generous space, and plenty of tech. In the cabin, clean lines are again a feature and are complemented by padded surfaces on key areas, with the front and rear doors having integrated handles.

The centre console is positioned lower and features two cup holders and an integrated armrest containing one of the many storage areas. Despite the two generously sized screens, old school buttons and switches are used for the windscreen demister, volume controls and driving mode selector.

The interior has a bright feel thanks to the panoramic glass roof, while the flat floor - made possible by BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 - gives great legroom for passengers in the back. For those family excursions, 400 litres of boot space should fit all your luggage, while that figure can be increased to 1,340 litres when the split folding rear seat is lowered.

Battery technology

The vehicle features a space-efficient Blade Battery, which allows more cells to be installed directly and uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) as a cathode material for higher levels of safety. Cell-to-Body construction is used for the first time in a compact BYD model. The CTB process integrates a battery into the vehicle chassis, with the top cover of the pack acting as the floor for the passenger section.

Battery choices

The ATTO 2 is offered with a choice of two sizes of Blade Battery. The standard range edition at launch will use a 45.1kWh battery and 130kW electric motor giving 193 miles of range.

A larger battery version offering more range will be revealed to coincide with the full European launch of the car in February. Sales will begin during the same month.
