Ariel ‘E-Nomad’ Concept unveiled

Lightweight road, track and off-road vehicle specialist Ariel has unveiled a fully electric concept called the E-Nomad. Based on the recently launched Ariel Nomad 2, the E-Nomad has been designed and manufactured in-house and rivals its combustion sibling for speed, with the brand calling it the “ultimate go-anywhere sports car”.

Powered by a 41kWh battery that sends power to a rear motor, gearbox and inverter unit, it produces 281bhp and 490Nm of torque, which Ariel says helps give it the same performance off-road as on the road. It can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds and has a range of up to 150 miles. Designed to be as aerodynamically efficient as possible, the E-Nomad weighs only 896kg thanks to its all-new natural fibre bio-composite recyclable bodywork. The battery is around 300kg and can be fast charged from 20% - 80% in under 25 minutes.

The E-Nomad concept is fitted with Ariel’s ABS system. This has driver selectable on and off-road modes with regenerative braking feeding energy to the battery, allowing one pedal driving. Drivers can choose between Sport and ECO mode. Sport mode gives full power and performance, while ECO mode is tailored to increase range through reduced power and torque.

Drive, neutral, reverse and parking settings, as well as driving modes, can be controlled via the central switch panel. Information such as speed, air temperature and battery status are also displayed and Ariel will use this information as part of its evaluation and development programme.

The concept won’t be available to buy for now, with Ariel choosing to wait and see public perception before deciding on its future plans.

Simon Saunders, Ariel Director: “While the E-Nomad is a concept, it does show production intent for the vehicle and hints at just a small part of Ariel’s future. Once it has been through our usual, gruelling testing regime we could opt to add E-Nomad alongside its ICE Nomad 2 sibling, so we’ll take great interest in customer feedback on the concept car.”

The E-Nomad will be on show for the first time at the Cenex Expo 2024 on 4th September at UTAC Millbrook.
