1966 Aston Martin DB5 Heads to Auction

A beautiful 1966 Aston Martin DB5, once owned for 30 years by respected motoring correspondent for the Daily Telegraph, Andrew English, is to join the many other stunning classic vehicles at the H&H Classics auction in Buxton.

The DB5 - with its ‘GBO 500D’ number plate since first registration - has an illustrious history having been both FIA and MSA registered and entering several springs, hill climbs and rallies as a result. At the auction on November 29th, it is expected to fetch between £500,000 - £550,000, justifiable for DB5 which is regarded as one of the best examples on the road today.

Boasting a ZF 5-speed manual gearbox, chassis DB5/2035/R underwent extensive restoration in the 1990s by Nigel Barker at Davron Engineering, being repainted in Dark Navy Blue and fitted with a Harvey Bailey handling kit. In recent years, it has had a refresh in its interior (to the tune of £20,000) as well as significant improvements in its performance and is powered by a 4.2-litre engine.

Included in the sale with the 1966 DB5 is a current V5C, copies of previous registration documents, many MOT certificates and invoices for parts and services.

Julian Pinkster, motorcar specialist at H&H Classics, said: "The DB5 is an iconic symbol of British automotive heritage, thanks to its association with James Bond. The performance and history of this particular model, place it among the nicest driving examples of the DB5 to come to auction. Few cars can match the DB5’s heritage and cultural significance. We're expecting strong interest and competitive bidding for this quintessential example of British motoring excellence,"

Over 150 other classic and collectable cars are for sale with the auction commencing at 1pm on Wednesday 29th with bidding available online, via telephone, commission bid or in person. To see the full list of lots available in the auction, visit www.handh.co.uk
