75 Years of Porsche to be celebrated at Goodwood Members Meeting

Goodwood has announced that the 80th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport will host an on-track demonstration celebrating 75 years of Porsche.

The greatest collection of racing Porsche 911s from 1973 to 1998 will take to the track at Goodwood Motor Circuit, which also celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.

The 911 has been raced extensively over the years by private and factory teams, in a variety of classes and is among the most successful competition cars.

The 1998 Le Mans-winning GT1-98 will be in the spotlight over the weekend. As well as this, the hugely significant 1973 Targa Florio-winning Carrera RSR, will be driven by Tom Kristensen. Kristensen holds the record for the most wins at 24 Hours of Le Mans with nine, including six consecutive wins between 2000 to 2005. The Dane also holds the record for most wins at 12 Hours of Sebring with six and won the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Also featured in the celebration is Norbert Singer’s Porsche 935 ‘Moby Dick’, as well as the 1975 and 1978 Daytona-winning chassis. Overall, the demonstration will showcase over 20 iconic racing 911s.

The Porsche 911 was introduced to the world in September 1964 and while the car may have been continually enhanced over the years, the basic concept has remained unchanged. They are instantly recognisable to petrolheads and non-petrolheads alike all over the world. In a 1999 poll to determine the Car of the Century, the 911 was fifth and in 2015, Car and Driver named the Porsche 911 “the best premium sports car on the market”.

The Porsche celebrations will take place at 12:40 on Saturday 15th and 14:35 on Sunday 16th of April, joining the GT1 Le Mans and Brabham BT52 demonstrations, as well as a full race schedule.

Saturday tickets are now sold out but Sunday tickets can still be purchased by Members and Fellows of the Goodwood Road Racing Club via goodwood.com or by calling the Ticket Office on 01243 755055.
